Helping Heroes Settle In:
Post 42 Assists Beds4Vets with Vital Veteran Support

The Evanston Post 42 Charitable Foundation proudly provided funding support to Beds4Vets, a dedicated 501(c)(3) nonprofit that partners with the VA to furnish vacant living spaces for veterans transitioning out of homelessness.

Beds4Vets transforms empty apartments into functional, welcoming homes by supplying essential basics like beds, linens, kitchenware, furniture, and household items—helping veterans build stability, pride, and social connections to reduce the risk of returning to homelessness.

This all-volunteer organization ensures every donation directly impacts lives, supporting veterans from all branches as they rebuild. Through this contribution, Post 42 helped make homes possible for those who've served, turning compassion into tangible comfort and security.

Hammers, Heart, and Heroes

When an aging veteran’s house fell into disrepair, members of American Legion Post 42 didn’t just talk about helping — they showed up with saws, hammers, paintbrushes, and plenty of determination. On a crisp Saturday morning, the crew tackled drafty windows, sagging porches, peeling paint, and creaky floors.

There was plenty of laughter, good-natured ribbing, and the satisfying sound of progress as the home slowly came back to life. By the end of the day, the house looked cared for again — and more importantly, the veteran felt remembered and supported.

That’s Post 42 in action: turning goodwill into real help, one hammer swing at a time.

Supporting Our Neighbors: Boosting Leyden Community Food Pantry with a $7,500 Gift

The Evanston Post 42 Charitable Foundation proudly donated $7,500 to the Leyden Community Food Pantry, bolstering their vital mission to combat hunger in the northwest Chicagoland suburbs.

The pantry, operated jointly by the Leyden Township Community Foundation and Leyden Family Services, provides emergency food assistance to residents in need across communities like Franklin Park, River Grove, and beyond.

This generous contribution from Post 42 helped ensure more groceries reached those who need them most, reflecting the Foundation's ongoing commitment to community support alongside veteran services.

Stronger Together: Post 42 Provides Transportation Boost for Midwest Veterans Closet's Furniture Donations

The Evanston Post 42 Charitable Foundation stepped up to support the Midwest Veterans Closet in North Chicago by providing essential transportation for donated furniture items. These much-needed household goods reached veterans facing hardship, providing comfort and stability in their homes.

This timely assistance solved a critical transportation challenge for the Closet—a vital 501(c)(3) resource offering rapid-response help with food, clothing, furniture, and more to veterans and their families. By bridging the gap, the Foundation ensured generous donations made a real, immediate difference in veterans' lives.
